About Us
Black Dahlia Lacquer is a hand-crafted, vegan, and 5-free nail polish line created by a mother-daughter team in 2014. Based in Houston, Texas, Black Dahlia Lacquer offers more than 100 unique nail polish shades, available in two sizes, and cuticle oil in six scents. Our products are currently stocked at dozens of retailers including salons, spas, beauty supply stores, boutiques, gift shops, natural grocers and even a vegan bakery.
Black Dahlia Lacquer has a strong commitment to remaining a cruelty free business. We do not test on animals and only work with supply vendors who have also committed to refrain from testing on animals. Additionally, we will not work with stockists, either in the US or abroad, that require animal testing. Our commitment to remain vegan means our polish does not contain ingredients such as carmine, a coloring comprised of insects, often found in red, pink and purple pigments, or guanine, essentially fish scales, which can be used to add shimmer or iridescence to polish. We are certified cruelty-free by the internationally recognized Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics’ (CCIC) Leaping Bunny Program and by PETA's Beauty Without Bunnies. We've also been approved as cruelty free and vegan by Logical Harmony.
Black Dahlia Lacquer is certified as a Women Owned Small Business by the Small Business Administration.
Founder Deanna spent the last 20 years as a newspaper and magazine journalist, while her daughter Aubrey is currently a nursing student. Named after Deanna's favorite flower; the opening of this store was a chance to channel our creative energies and share our passion with others.
